Prediction of Tendon Sub-Failure Damage Accumulation
A new Continuum Damage Mechanics model has been added to FEBio called the Damage Fiber Exponential Linear model. The novelty of this model comes from the combination of continuous and discontinuous damage mechanisms to capture both damage from repeating cycles at the same load level as well as the effect of increasing load level. The verifiation files for this damage model are included with three types of loading scenarios: Creep Cyclic Fatigue, Incremental Cyclic Fatigue, and Stress Relaxation. Their material parameters have been fit to experimental rat tail tendon fascicle data in order to predict cyclic sub-failure damage accumulation. The stress-relaxation tests are included to show how the damage model is incapable of reproducing stress-relaxation loading experiments and should not be used for these types of simulations.
