Validation of a Simplified Modeling Framework for Predicting Strain in the Hip
This study evaluated the use of soft tissue overlap modeling as a simplified approach for estimating hip cartilage and labral strain during walking. Subject-specific finite element models from individuals with radiographically normal hips and patients with cam-type femoroacetabular impingement syndrome were used as the reference comparison. The study focused on determining whether overlap-based geometric estimates could reproduce finite element-predicted strain patterns in the cartilage and labrum using subject-specific anatomy, kinematics, and joint reaction forces.
